Boston is a mega-sports city, with professional basketball, baseball, football and hockey. Yet one of the nations most famous amateur events also takes place in and around this city, the Boston Marathon. College football at Boston College and Harvard are also draws in this dynamic arena of sports along with other college sporting events including basketball and the Beanpot Hockey Tournament.

The nation’s premiere running event, the Boston Marathon is over a hundred years strong with thousands of runners participating and a million spectators to cheer them on. The first running began as a Patriot’s Day event in April of 1897 and since then, the 26. 2 mile race has really made history with the best in the world running along side first-timers.

Boston Bruins - TD Banknorth Garden / One FleetCenter / 617-931-2000 (TicketMaster) The long New England winters had aided in the making of some great ice hockey players and fans alike. The Bruins play their extended NHL winter season from October through April at the Fleet Center.

The team has garnered its share of NBA triumphs and the future is a bright one for the green jerseys.

Known for a great football program on the national level, the Eagles play their home games at the Alumni Stadium. The school also has a strong basketball program and has in the past hosted the mens NCAA tournament at the FleetCenter.

Fenway Park is one of the oldest baseball parks in continuous use in this country and in all that time, it has been the home of the Boston Red Sox. Some day in the not so distant future the intimidating Green Monster of a left field wall will make way for a newer stadium. The fates have answered the Curse of the Bambino with a 2004 World Series Championship and the consummate loyalty expressed by the fans of Beantown’s Sox keeps hopes alive for the team winning another World Series in the near future.

Harvard University Crimson
– Harvard Stadium / North Harvard Street & Soldier’s Field Road / Allston / 617-495-2211 / The Old Ivy League with Harvard, the oldest college in the country, it’s a great combination for college football. Crimson home games are played at Harvard Stadium.

Head of the Charles Regatta - Cambridge / 617-864-8415
In October Cambridge and the Charles River play host to the world’s largest rowing competition with thousands of participants of all ages and hundreds of thousand viewers lined up across the bridges and along three miles of river bank towards Brighton.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

The exhibits include interactive activities, artifacts and of course the scoop on all of the great players and coaches in America’s, and now the world’s most loved team sport. The areas winning NFL team, if the Sox can’t bring home a series the Patriots can bring home a Super Bowl title now and then.

Interactive exhibits, video footage and memorabilia trace the teams, sportsmen and players who made their mark in local and national sports.

U.S. Pro Tennis Championship - Longwood Cricket Club / 564 Hammond Street / Brookline / 617-731-4500 / $ Held in late August, the men play for the U. S. Professional Championship at this annual tennis event.
